Visiting Central & Southern Arkansas

Little Rock is the geographical and political capitol of Arkansas. It is the state capital, the cradle of the civil rights movement, and the first capital city of US President William J Clinton - museums and landmarks throughout the city honor its history. Best Western Hotels are conveniently located throughout the Little Rock region providing affordable accommodations and amenities to meet your leisure or business travel needs.

Bridging out from dynamic and modern Little Rock the treasured history and rich outdoor natural resources of southern Arkansas unfolds. A former confederate capital, now Old Washington State Park, offers a look into early US history. More current history can be soaked in at the boyhood home of President Clinton, open for visitors in the town of Hope. If early May suits your schedule, the 14th annual Hope Chamber of Commerce sponsors a free Bluegrass Festival on Saturday the 8th.

Boxing fans take note - Little Rock will host the state, regional and National Golden Gloves tournaments in March, April and June. The state and mid-south regionals will be held in North Little Rock and the nationals will be held at the Statehouse Convention Center May 3-8. Take advantage and come see the next big names in boxing emerge.

Baseball and football fans have a full schedule of Arkansas Travelers baseball games and Arkansas Diamonds indoor football this time of year. The Travelers will host the first college baseball game at the Dickey Stephens Park on May 11th. Come watch the Razorbacks and Louisiana Tech Bulldogs play at night, and the ticket is good for the 11am Travelers game as well. Make it a full day doubleheader!

Southern Arkansas may be the best deer hunting region in the state, along with its legendary lakes and rivers it is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise. Lunker bass are native to the region, a draw for fishermen of all ages. There are beautiful state and national parks in the area including the 65,000 acre Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge and the Grandview Conservation Education Center and Wildlife Management Area both beautiful areas to observe the amazing wildlife of the region.

Community and town festivals are a way of life in Arkansas with spring time bringing the Magnolia Festival in early May, including a world championship steak cook off, and a side walk art festival that has been held for over 60 years. Hot Springs attractions include the Daffodil Festival in late February followed in March and April with the Tulip Extravaganza. Bird lovers don't miss the Annual Eagles Et Cetera Festival at DeGray Lake near Arkadelphia featuring the bald eagle, demonstrations with birds of prey, and amazing bird watching.
