Visiting Ozarks & Northern Arkansas
This summer, the Ozarks come alive with plenty of reasons to get outdoors and plenty of ways to enjoy the warm yet mild weather.
What better way to appreciate great weather than hitting the greens? Golf season is in full swing in northern Arkansas. If you miss your chance to tee off for charity in the 18th Annual Conway Regional Golf Classic on June 9th at Centennial Valley Golf Club, never fear – Conway offers a few other popular course options. Try your hand at Conway Country Club, or the par 72, Championship course at Nutters Travel Golf & Country Club, both open for public play.
In the far northwest of the state, venues across Eureka Springs open up for the 2014 Eureka Springs Blues Weekend. The festival features music from Chubby Carrier, Carolyn Wonderland, Walter Wolfman Washington, and many more. Check scheduled set times at venues like Basin Spring Park and Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.
Cyclists fill Eureka Springs for a variety of events, including cross-country, downhill, short track, and kids' bike races as part of the 2014 Eureka Springs Fat Tire Festival. Of all the fun taking place July 18th through 20th, the non-competitive Big Town Ride is one not to be missed. The trail sends riders through a scenic course at a reasonable pace and there are stops for beverages along the way. Make sure to stick around after the races for award ceremonies and Sunday night's pool party.
The neighboring communities of Van Buren and Fort Smith pay tribute to their historic pasts with the 2014 Riverfront Blues Festival, June 20th and 21st. Harry E. Kelly Park is the place to be to enjoy the sounds of locally and nationally known artists. Bring blankets and lawn chairs and be ready to relax the weekend away.
Springdale, north of Fayetteville, is the home to the University of Arkansas. The students are out on summer break, but the future major leaguers in the Northwest Arkansas Naturals go to bat against the best teams in the MiLB at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale through the end of September. Stay after the game on July 4th to celebrate Independence Day with the team as the 2014 Great American Blast sends fireworks into the sky over the stadium.
