History buffs love the St. Francis County Museum in historic downtown. Take a guided tour of the artifacts, fossils and photographs of the county. Discover the history of Crowley’s Ridge, and or the great influence of Native Americans and African Americans on St. Francis county. Permanent exhibits include the Rush Gates Historic Home – a museum of prehistoric artifacts, found on the Crowley’s Ridge National Byway. Spend the day in this famed home, because you’re soon to become an outdoorsman in the Village Creek State Park.
Find Highway 284 and travel 13 miles north to the Village Creek State Park – Arkansas’ second largest state park. Grab some fresh produce from the Forrest City Farmers Market and have lunch at one of the park’s 75 picnic areas. Cast out for large-mouth bass in Lake Dunn and Lake Austell found in the Village Creek. Get in a few rounds of golf at the 27-hole championship golf course reopening this May. Hike along the Austell Trail in Crowley’s Ridge, or get on horseback for a trek on one of the many trails open your ‘round. Explore as much as you can of the 7,000-acre park, and sleep like a rock at the Best Western hotel back in Forrest City.
