The Northern Arkansas city of Jonesboro, is the largest city in this portion of Arkansas. Not only is Jonesboro the hometown of author John Grisham, it is also home to Arkansas State University. The university was founded in 1909 and established as First District Agricultural School. In 1930, it began offering four year degrees and by 1967, the school became a university. ASU remains the only comprehensive public university in northeast Arkansas.
