At 911 acres, the Crater of Diamonds State Park neighbors the city of Murfreesboro in southwestern Arkansas. The park is a diamond site open to the public.

Aspiring Central Arkansas students looking to continue their education past high school, have a great resource in Arkadelphia. Henderson State University was established in 1890 as Arkadelphia Methodist College. It is the second-oldest university in the state.

In 1904, the college name changed to Henderson-Brown College, to honor Charles Christopher Henderson, a prominent Arkadelphia businessman.

Throughout the years, the college name changed six times, until the current name was chosen in 1975. The university remains the only member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges in Arkansas. It is just one of the many universities in Arkansas.

More than 3,500 students attend the university to pursue undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from the School of Business, the Matt Locke Ellis College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education and the Graduate School.

The HSU student athletes compete in the Great American Conference in sports like, football, baseball, softball, swimming and volleyball. While in central Arkansas, cheer on the Reddies during the Battle of the Ravine, the oldest rivalry in the NCAA Division II. 

Jenkins Ferry State Park

Established in 1864, the Jenkins Ferry State Park is located in southern Arkansas as the site of the Battle of Jenkins' Ferry during the Civil War. This Arkansas state park is both a U.S. National Historic Landmark and listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Set 13 miles south of Sheridan, and an hour east of Arkadelphia, Jenkins Ferry State Park features interpretive exhibits, and an onsite pavilion. The nearby Saline River offers swimming and a boat launch ramp. Jenkins Ferry is one of the premier examples of Arkansas state parks

National Scenic 7 Byway near Arkadelphia

Arkansas’ first scenic byway, the National Scenic 7 Byway, is 290 miles of travel from Arkadelphia to Harrison. Established in 1993, the southern section of Scenic 7 includes rolling hills and pine tree clusters, but continues on to the Ouachita National Forest. Next is the Arkansas River Valley on the border of the Ouachita Mountains and before fully submerging into the Ozark Mountains known for vibrant forests and streams.

Scenic 7 travels through southern Arkansas towns such as the famed Hot Springs, known for Bath House Row and Hot Springs National Park. Some of the very best and most ideal attractions are found along National Scenic 7 Byway in Arkadelphia, Russellville and Hot Springs.
