Hunting in Arkansas
10 Prime Places to Hunt in AR!
Here are 10 of the best places to hunt in AR:
1. Buck Island
Spread over 1,510 acres of Arkansas’ scenic Delta region, Buck Island features excellent winter and spring hunting opportunities. Just north of West Helena, sportsmen keep an eye out for deer, quail, rabbit, and more at Buck Island wildlife management area.
2. U of A Pine Tree Experimental Station
Don’t fret; you don’t have to be a University of Arkansas Razorback to bag a big one at the U of A Pine Tree Experimental Station near Stuttgart. This WMA features over 3,000 acres of hardwood timber, beaver ponds, and wetlands – along with plenty of game for the avid sportsmen.
3. Little River
Due to its frequent inundation, Little River WMA is only accessible by boat – but that only makes it more unique. The area can be found just east of Hope, where the bottomland hardwood gives way to great deer, quail, turkey, and rabbit gaming.
4. Degray Lake
Just a few miles north of Arkadelphia, Degray Lake WMA houses excellent deer, waterfowl, and bear hunting and trapping – season permitting, of course. Hunters can also take advantage of nearby Degray Lake Resort State Park’s plentiful outdoor recreation – including fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, and more.
5. Bayou Meto
Easily one of Arkansas’ largest state-owned WMAs, Bayou Meto totals over 30,000 acres of natural woodlands and wetlands near Pine Bluff. Some of the seasonal game includes deer, quail, rabbit, and migrating waterfowl.
6. Lake Winona
Getting its namesake from nearby Lake Winona, this WMA houses acres upon acres of the Ouachita National Forest near Little Rock. Not to mention, the hunting isn’t half-bad either – bear, deer, turkey, coyote, and more make this outstretched mountain terrain their home.
7. Beaver Lake
Whitetails, rabbits, bears – oh my! Beaver Lake features over 7,000 acres of Ozark beauty and great seasonal hunting. The Beaver Lake WMA is just about 10 miles from Eureka Springs, along the shores of – you guessed it – Beaver Lake.
8. Ozark Lake
Bag a big buck with multiple Ozark Lake hunting opportunities, including archery, muzzleloader, and modern gun mostly during the winter and spring months. The Ozark Lake WMA can be found just east of Van Buren along the Arkansas River.
9. Seven Devils
This central Arkansas wetland is primarily fed by cut-off creek, just north of Mcgehee, and can be flooded in late October. Due to the damp conditions, Seven Devils is great for duck and waterfowl hunting across the 6,000 acres of swampland. Boat access is seasonal.
10. Ozark National Forest
Try not to get lost when traversing over one million acres of old-growth and pine forests in the Ozark National Forest. Its not hard to find the Ozark National Forest – centrally located among towns like Clarksville, Russellville, Clinton, and Conway.
