Yellow Rock Trail

Top Hiking Trails in AR

The diverse, mountainous landscapes across Arkansas are known for their abundant recreation and natural beauty, from the Ozarks to the Ouachitas to the Timberlands.

As such, you’d be remiss not exploring the depths of the Arkansas countryside during your next visit. So, lace ‘em up, grab your supplies, and check out these Top Hiking Trails in Arkansas:

1. Seven Hollows Trail

Often considered one of the favorite trails in all of Arkansas by locals and visitors alike, the Seven Hollows Trail is a moderate, 4.5-mile hike through the hardwood forest and canyons found within Petit Jean State Park.

The trail is easily accessible via Arkansas Highway 154 from neighboring cities like Conway and Russellville.

2. Yellow Rock Trail

Top Hiking Trails in Arkansas

Scenic Autumn Trail

If you’ll be venturing through Devil’s Den State Park anytime soon, make plans to complete the Yellow Rock Trail, measuring in at a modest three miles.

The trek is absolutely worth it – the trail climbs about 300 feet, culminating in an unmatched view of the Lee Creek Valley and the Boston Mountains atop the Yellow Rock Overlook

3. North Rim Trail

Slightly more strenuous, the North Rim Trail of Mount Magazine State Park is a two-mile march winding through the forest and along the bluffs surrounding Arkansas’ tallest mountain, Mount Magazine.

4. Ouachita National Hiking Trail

Ready to explore the Ouachita Mountains? Great, there’s a 220-mile trail, and a two and a half mile trail. Luckily for you, they both begin at the Pinnacle Peak State Park visitor center, so you still have time to decide which you’ll be taking.

The two-mile trail, known as the Ouachita National Hiking Trail, runs mostly adjacent to the Maumelle River near Pinnacle and the city of Maumelle, and takes roughly about one hour to complete.

5. Rock Creek & Arkansas River Trails

Top Hiking Trails in Arkansas

Seven Hollows Trail

If you’re looking for some urban adventure, check out the Rock Creek Trail in west Little Rock, offering paved and non-paved areas while following Rock Creek for about a mile.

Similarly, the Arkansas River Trail offers a great way to see the beauty of the Little Rock area and some of its greatest attractions, all while hiking, biking, jogging, or simply walking along the 17-mile trail.

6. Shoddox Hollow Trail

A favorite among the Hobbs Conservation Area’s handful of hiking trails, the Shoddox Hollow Trail features about 1.5 miles of iconic Ozark beauty

Although the trail is considered an easy hike, it can descend steeply in certain areas. Though, most would agree the up-close views of the limestone bluffs are worth it.

7. West Mountain Trail

Although not exactly challenging, the West Mountain Trail is an absolute must-hike for visitors of Hot Springs.

On top of the brisk 1.2-mile trek, the trail is actually located within the iconic Hot Springs National Park, yielding access to one of the country’s most beloved national parks.

8. Little Missouri River Trail

North Rim Trail

No, you won’t find any diamonds at the Crater of Diamonds State Park. But you will definitely find some outdoor adventure along the River Trail, a favorite among park goers.

Visitors of southern AR will fill convenient access to the 1.2-mile trail along Interstate 30, near the cities of Hope and Arkadelphia

9. Dancing Rabbit Trail

See what kind of beauty the Upper Arkansas Delta has to offer at Crowley’s Ridge State Park, home of the Dancing Rabbit Trail and its swinging bridges.

A modest hike, Dancing Rabbit only reaches about one and a half miles one way, but it offers an easy way for Jonesboro visitors to see Crowley’s Ridge without traveling too far from the city.

10. Leather Loop Trail

The city of Eureka Springs isn’t short on things to do, that much is for sure. Still, hikers won’t want to miss their chance at exploring Lake Leatherwood and its surrounding northern AR forest. Even better, maybe pack some fishing rods or a swim suit, as the lake is a great swimming hole in the summer.
